1 Sam 16 “The King’s heart Handout
Seeing Jesus and being changed: moving from David to Jesus
“The LORD said to Samuel, ‘How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel.”
Sinful hearts mean that;
Sin leads to death;
Sin leads to death but living with God as King leads to life.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
David needed God
David depended upon God
David set God as his King

Home group Questions
1 Sam 16 “The King’s heart
1) Read verses 1-4. What consequences of sin are evident here? Why are we so prone to wanting to be like the world around us? What sinful attitudes rob you of joy, assurance and peace as a Christian?
2) Read verses 5-13 (Man look on the outside but God looks on the heart). What great comfort is there for Christians that God knows every detail of our hearts? Why is God’s choice of David rather than Eliab so encouraging for us?
3) We must respond properly to King Jesus. What will that look like for you in each of the following 4 areas?
